Surabhi Agrawal 10C volunteered in Setrawa, India through Sambhali Trust, a non-profit organization devoted to women’s empowerment and girls’ education. Agrawal’s nine week internship was part of Emory’s Undergraduate Program in Global Research and Development.

Each year, Emory student volunteers join anthropology professor Oded Borowski on an excavation project in Israel. Working at this site since 1976, Borowski and his team have unearthed artifacts that help understand the occupations and cultural traditions of the 8th century B.C.E.

Christine Khosropour 10MPH traveled with a team of Emory students to eastern Ghana to observe local water and sanitation practices. Her experience helped her learn about the difficulties people face when trying to combat waterborne diseases at the community level.

Senior lecturer Tony Martin PhD spent his Winship Award sabbatical in Melbourne, Australia. Martin spent considerable time in the field studying the fossilized remains of the dinosaurs, mammals, birds, insects, and plants that once thrived in southern Australia.

Pam Redmon, executive director of the Tobacco and Technical Assistance Consortium, leads a worldwide effort to reduce tobacco use in China. The program provides training and technical assistance services to national, state, and local tobacco-control groups.

Andrew Tate 11C spent his senior year in Freiburg, Germany, as part of Emory’s new study abroad program in sustainability. In Freiburg, Tate met with world-class urban planners and experienced green living firsthand in one of Europe’s greenest cities.

Abby Johanna Weil 13N conducted research on Eleuthera Island, Bahamas, as part of a multidisciplinary research team from Emory. Weil’s team hopes the results will help in prevention processes.

Associate professor of art history Bonna Wescoat leads excavations in Greece’s Sanctuary at Samothrace. Unlike other archeological sites in Greece, the buildings are more unpredictable, which contributes to the allure and challenge for Wescoat and her team.
